Anna Altman is a licensed master social worker working in DC and Maryland. She comes to Global Psychotherapy with four years of experience in community mental health and hospital settings, treating adults and couples throughout the lifespan with a range of emotional and psychological challenges. These include concerns related to anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, life transitions, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADHD, relational challenges, and chronic and terminal illness.
Many clients come to therapy with questions: Why do I feel this way? Why do I react or think the way I do? Is there something I’m missing about how I’m living my life? Anna strives to create a safe, collaborative space where these questions can be explored with curiosity and compassion. Her work is primarily psychodynamically oriented, helping clients develop a deeper understanding of how past experiences shape present-day patterns, beliefs, and relationships. Through this process, she hopes to support personal growth and healing. When appropriate and aligned with client preferences, Anna also integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, mindfulness practices, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Anna came to clinical work following a career as a writer and journalist. Drawing on this background, she helps clients articulate questions, organize their own narrative, and put language to their experiences—making life feel more coherent, less overwhelming, and ultimately more fulfilling, and even beautiful.
